The SUMITOMO 10JT805 is a cermet uncoated turning insert designed for precision metal cutting applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a clearance code of P, which reduces cutting forces and improves surface finish on ferrous workpieces. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.315 inches, thickness is 0.0937 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). It is held in the toolholder by a screw-clamp method and conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning of steel workpieces, designated by the ISO material code P. The CPGT series and SD chip breaker geometry make it appropriate for light to moderate depth-of-cut operations where consistent chip control and dimensional accuracy are required. It is packaged individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it a production-floor consumable. Applications include turning shafts, pins, and other cylindrical steel components on conventional and live-tool CNC lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CPGT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and screw-hole diameter of 0.1339 inches.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in an energy-isolated state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not over-torque, as cermet substrates are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or damage before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming cuts.
