The SUMITOMO 10JT797 is a TPGG-style cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. The insert is manufactured in grade T1500A cermet, an uncoated material suited for fine finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel workpieces. Mounting is via screw-holding method, and the right-hand orientation supports standard toolholder setups. This insert is appropriate for licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
The 10JT797 is used in turning applications where tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes are required on steel. Its positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and heat generation, making it well suited for light-to-moderate depth-of-cut passes on low-to-medium carbon steels and alloy steels classified under ISO material group P. ANSI code TPGG332R and ISO code TPGT160408R-SD allow direct cross-referencing with toolholder catalogs and insert indexing systems. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use in TPGG-style screw-clamp toolholders compatible with ANSI code TPGG332R and ISO code TPGT160408R-SD. Primary workpiece material is steel, ISO material group P.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the cermet substrate — refer to the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating the insert.
