The SUMITOMO 10JT273 is a cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this triangular insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The T1500A grade cermet substrate offers a bright, uncoated finish suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel workpieces. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for left-hand cutting applications on steel workpieces, classified under ISO material code P. It fits into TNPL-style toolholders using a clamp and pin holding method. The negative rake geometry and N clearance code make it appropriate for rigid setups where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and light contouring on ferrous materials.
Designed for use in TNPL-style insert toolholders using clamp and pin clamping. Insert style code TNPL, series TNP. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping system before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as cermet is a brittle substrate that can crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, wear, or debris before seating the insert.
