The SUMITOMO 10JJ957 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Conforming to ANSI insert code CNGA432 and ISO code CNGA120408, this insert features a TiAlCrN coating applied via PVD process under SUMITOMO's proprietary Super ZX designation. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge suited to finish and semi-finish turning. Negative rake geometry and a flat top chip breaker design deliver stability during aggressive cuts on difficult workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in precision machining environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is optimized for turning hardened steel (ISO workpiece material code H, material grade H10), making it well suited to hard-turning applications where CBN or conventional carbide grades underperform. The flat top chip breaker and negative side clearance geometry work together to maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting forces. It is appropriate for use in both roughing and finishing passes on hardened ferrous components in production and job-shop environments where consistent surface finish and tool life are required.
Designed for use in CNGA-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with pin and screw holding. Conforms to ANSI size code 432 and ISO size code 120408 for broad compatibility with standard negative-rake turning toolholders.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before securing the insert with the appropriate pin and screw hardware. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure and verify secure seating before resuming cutting operations.
