The SUMITOMO 10HWW13 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries the ANSI code DNGG430 and ISO code DNGG150401, with a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a neutral hand orientation. The insert is PVD-coated with SUMITOMO's proprietary Super ZX multilayer TiAlN and AlCrN coating, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to finishing and light machining passes. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action at a 13-degree rake angle, helping control chip flow and reduce cutting forces on difficult materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium will find this insert sized and graded for those demanding applications.
The 10HWW13 is engineered for finishing and light machining of stainless steel (ISO material group M) and special or super alloys including titanium (ISO material group S). The AC520U grade targets moderate to high wear resistance combined with adequate toughness for these materials, which are known for work hardening and thermal load. Typical installation scenarios include OD turning operations on CNC lathes where a DNGG-style insert holder with clamp or pin retention is already in service. The negative side clearance and 0-degree relief angle make this a negative-geometry insert suited to rigid setups that can take advantage of the stronger cutting edge.
Designed for use in DNGG-style insert toolholders that accept a 430 ANSI size code insert with clamp or pin retention. Fits tooling systems conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards for this insert geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or pin to prevent micro-movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and do not mix insert sizes or geometries within a toolholder series.
