The SUMITOMO 10HWAEX is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (DNGG style) with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 13 degrees. The insert carries the AC520U manufacturer grade and is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCrN dual-layer coating, marketed under Sumitomo's Super ZX designation. The ESU chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow during demanding cuts. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius, this insert is built for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface integrity matter. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in precision machining environments.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — workpiece material codes M and S. These are materials known for work hardening, high heat generation, and tool wear, making the PVD TiAlN and AlCrN coating particularly relevant. Typical use cases include aerospace component turning, medical part machining, and industrial precision turning where tool life and surface finish are critical. The ANSI code is DNGG432ESU and the ISO 13399 code is DNGG150408N-SU. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of one insert per package.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert conforming to ANSI code DNGG432ESU and ISO 13399 code DNGG150408N-SU. Compatible with toolholders designed for DNGG-style inserts using clamp or pin holding methods. Intended for use on stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces (material codes M and S).
This insert is installed by machinists or CNC lathe operators following standard turning insert change procedures. Always index or replace the insert with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing clamp-style holders. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
