The SUMITOMO 10HVAEN is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. This CNGG-style insert carries the AC510U grade designation and features a dual-layer PVD coating combining TiAlN and AlCrN, marketed under Sumitomo's Super ZX coating platform. The ESU chip breaker geometry and a positive 13-degree rake angle work together to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces. At 0.5079 inches in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0078-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish are critical. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, it fits standard CNGG-compatible toolholders.
This insert is engineered for cutting superalloys and titanium alloys, material categories classified under the S workpiece material group. These materials are common in aerospace, medical device, and high-performance mechanical applications where tool life under heat and pressure is a constant challenge. The TiAlN and AlCrN coating combination provides oxidation resistance and hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures, making this insert a practical choice for shops running difficult-to-machine materials at controlled parameters. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in CNGG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp or pin insert retention. Optimized for superalloy and titanium workpiece materials (ISO material group S). Conforms to ANSI code CNGG430.5ESU and ISO code CNGG120402N-SU per ISO 13399.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure — inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating. Confirm insert hand orientation and chip breaker designation match the toolholder and cutting application before indexing. Handle solid carbide inserts carefully to avoid edge chipping during installation.
