The SUMITOMO 10HM187 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT style, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the AC530U manufacturer grade and is coated with a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCrN (Super ZX) coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat resistance and edge durability in demanding cuts. The 55-degree diamond insert shape provides a sharp, positive-rake geometry with a 15-degree rake angle and 7-degree relief angle. A 0.0078-inch corner radius supports fine finishing passes. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 10HM187 is suited for turning applications on stainless steel (ISO material group M) as a primary application, with secondary applicability to other ISO material groups depending on depth of cut and feed rate. The RFX chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during light to moderate finishing cuts. This insert is used in toolholders that accept screw-clamped DCGT-style inserts with the corresponding pocket geometry. It is a right-hand cutting insert sized to the ANSI code DCGT32.50.5RFX and ISO code DCGT11T302R-FX, making it a standard geometry for toolholder systems that conform to ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications.
Designed for use in screw-clamped DCGT-style turning toolholders accepting inserts with ANSI code DCGT32.50.5RFX or ISO code DCGT11T302R-FX. Verify toolholder pocket geometry matches clearance code C and tolerance code G before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Discard worn inserts through appropriate carbide recycling channels.
