The SUMITOMO 10HM185 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation DCGT32.50RFX and the ISO equivalent DCGT11T301R-FX, placing it in the DC series with a 55-degree diamond shape and a positive rake geometry. The insert is dual-coated with TiAlN and AlCrN applied via a PVD coating process under SUMITOMO proprietary designation Super ZX, delivering hardness and heat resistance suited to demanding cut conditions. The RFX chip breaker geometry and 15-degree rake angle promote clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces.
This insert is intended for right-hand cutting applications on CNC turning equipment. It is well suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes, particularly on stainless steel workpieces where edge integrity and surface finish are critical. The screw-clamping holding method makes it compatible with standard DCGT-style toolholders used in production turning environments. Machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians working in job shop or production settings will find this insert appropriate for tight-tolerance turning where a controlled corner radius and consistent coating performance are required.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert with a clearance code C and tolerance code G. Rated for stainless steel (ISO material group M) as a secondary workpiece material. Verify toolholder pocket geometry against ANSI code DCGT32.50RFX or ISO code DCGT11T301R-FX before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any insert. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specified torque. Inspect the insert seating surface and pocket for chips or debris prior to installation to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure.
