The SUMITOMO 10HM038 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. Manufactured to the ANSI code DCGT32.50EFM and ISO code DCGT11T301N-SC, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a neutral hand orientation. The AC530U grade substrate is dual-coated with TiAlN and AlCrN via a PVD process under Sumitomo's Super ZX coating designation, providing wear resistance and thermal stability. The EFM chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at the cutting edge, supporting consistent surface finishes. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning technicians working with precision carbide tooling systems.
This insert is suited for turning applications involving stainless steel and similar secondary workpiece materials classified under ISO material group M. The screw-holding method and G tolerance code make it compatible with standard DCGT-style toolholders. Typical applications include finish turning passes where tight dimensional tolerances and controlled chip evacuation are required. The 6-degree rake angle and 7-degree relief angle support clean cutting action on difficult-to-machine alloys.
