The STARRETT T444.1XRL-1 is a mechanical outside micrometer built for precise dimensional measurement of external workpiece features. It covers a 1 inch measurement range with a graduation of 0.0001 inches and an accuracy of 0.000050 inches, making it well suited for applications where close-tolerance verification is required. The thimble uses a ratchet stop mechanism to deliver consistent measuring pressure across repeated readings. Solid carbide measuring faces extend service life and maintain flatness under regular use. The T444.1XRL-1 is appropriate for shop floor measurement of shafts, pins, bosses, and similar turned or ground components where external diameter or thickness must be confirmed to tight tolerances. Outside micrometers require no installation but should be calibrated against a known standard before use and verified periodically during measurement sessions. Clean measuring faces with a lint-free cloth before each use to remove chips, oil, or debris that could affect readings. Store the micrometer in its included case when not in use to protect the measuring faces and thimble mechanism. Calibration and adjustment should be performed by a qualified metrologist or tool technician following the manufacturer wrench procedure.
