The STARRETT 66441 is a mechanical ball anvil micrometer designed for precision outside measurement of curved, convex, and hard-to-reach surfaces. The 66441 covers a measurement range of 0 to 0.5 inches with a graduation of 0.001 inches, making it suitable for dimensional inspection work requiring repeatable, high-resolution readings. Both the anvil and spindle contact faces are carbide-tipped to resist wear on abrasive workpieces. A ratchet stop thimble controls measuring pressure for consistent readings. The satin chrome finish reduces glare under shop lighting. This tool is used by machinists, pipefitters, and precision measurement technicians in fabrication, maintenance, and quality control environments.
The STARRETT 66441 is well suited for measuring wall thickness on tubing, checking groove depths, and taking outside dimensions on cylindrical or spherical workpieces where a flat anvil cannot seat properly. The ball anvil geometry allows contact on concave surfaces that would otherwise produce unreliable readings with a standard flat-face micrometer. This micrometer is appropriate for use in light industrial, shop floor, and inspection environments where mechanical gauging tools are the standard.
Designed as an OEM-style precision measurement tool for use in standard mechanical gauging applications requiring outside measurement of curved or convex workpieces in the 0 to 0.5 inch range.
No installation is required for this handheld gauging tool. Prior to use, clean the anvil and spindle contact faces and verify zero calibration against a known reference. Store the micrometer in its case when not in use to protect the carbide faces and calibrated surfaces. Calibration should be performed periodically per your facility or quality system requirements.
