The STARRETT 64607 is a horizontal-style dial test indicator designed for precise surface, runout, and alignment measurements in machining, inspection, and quality-control applications. It reads to 0.0001 inch graduation over a 0.01 inch total range, with a 0-5-0 balanced dial face that allows bidirectional reading without resetting. The jeweled movement reduces friction and wear, extending service life in high-cycle shop environments. A satin chrome finish on the narrow body resists corrosion and glare. The angled, adjustable head and dovetail mount make it straightforward to position on magnetic bases, height gauges, or machine tool holders. Machinists, toolmakers, and metrology technicians are the primary users.
This indicator is suited for horizontal mounting setups on manual mills, lathes, surface plates, and CMM fixtures where a low-profile, narrow-body gauge is required. The dovetail mount accepts standard indicator holders and transfer arms found in most machine shops. The adjustable angled head lets the technician orient the contact point without repositioning the entire holder, which is useful when checking bores, slots, or recessed surfaces. It ships with one 13/16 inch (20.64 mm) long carbide contact point with a 2.00 mm diameter ball tip.
Designed for use with standard dovetail-mount indicator holders, magnetic bases, and transfer arms common to machine shop and inspection setups. Contact point follows industry-standard thread sizing for replaceable carbide tips.
Dial test indicators are installed by machinists and metrology technicians — no special licensing is required, but familiarity with indicator setup and holder torque is expected. Secure the dovetail mount firmly in the holder before taking readings; a loose clamp introduces measurement error. Protect the jeweled movement from impact and debris by keeping the indicator in its case when not in use. Do not over-travel the spindle beyond the rated 0.01 inch range, as this can damage the gear train.
