The STARRETT 59145 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock measures 1/32 inch thick, 1-1/2 inches wide, and 36 inches long. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, and squareness is maintained at 0.003 inches per inch on all edges. The tight dimensional tolerances make this stock suitable for applications where accurate sizing is required before heat treatment. Licensed machinists and toolmakers are the primary installers and users of this material.
O1 tool steel flat stock is used in the fabrication of punches, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures in both job shop and production machine shop environments. The 36-inch length provides sufficient stock for most toolroom blanks. Because O1 is an oil-hardening grade, it is selected when predictable, controlled hardening response is required. This bar stock is supplied in the annealed condition and is intended for machining prior to heat treatment. It is appropriate for both light-production and prototype tooling work.
Designed as a standard toolroom flat stock blank for use in die making, punch fabrication, and precision gauge work requiring AISI O1 oil-hardening tool steel.
This material is worked by machinists and toolmakers using standard milling, grinding, and sawing equipment. Heat treatment should be performed by qualified personnel following established practices for O1 tool steel. Always allow adequate stock for finish grinding after hardening and tempering. Handle edges with care, as machined tool steel edges can be sharp.
