The STARRETT 58895 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specifications, this flat stock measures 1/32 inch thick, 1/2 inch wide, and 36 inches long, with a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches. The tight dimensional tolerances and consistent edge squareness make it suitable for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, knives, and other precision tooling components. It is supplied in the annealed condition and intended for subsequent hardening by oil quench after heat treatment. Machinists, tool and die makers, and precision fabricators work with this material regularly.
STARRETT 58895 flat stock is suited for small-scale tooling and instrument work where precise thickness control is critical. The 36-inch length allows for multiple cutoffs from a single bar, reducing waste in short-run tooling jobs. Its compact 1/32-inch thickness makes it appropriate for thin blades, shims, stripper plates, and similar components in light toolroom and prototype work. The material weighs approximately 0.16 pounds per bar, keeping handling simple for bench-level fabrication tasks.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for general toolroom, die making, and precision fabrication applications requiring AISI Type O1 material in this size.
Cutting and grinding of tool steel flat stock should be performed with appropriate metalworking equipment; high-speed saw blades or abrasive cutoff wheels are commonly used. Heat treatment and oil quenching should follow established metallurgical procedures for AISI O1 tool steel and must be performed by qualified personnel. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting, grinding, or heat treating. Handle edges with care, as ground surfaces may be sharp.
