The STARRETT 57645 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar sized at 7/8 inch thick, 6 inches wide, and 18 inches long. A2 tool steel is an air-hardening, cold-work die steel known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and its balance of toughness and wear resistance. This flat stock is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining, grinding, and subsequent heat treatment. Machinists, tool and die makers, and toolroom professionals use this material to fabricate dies, punches, gauges, shear blades, and similar precision tooling components where tight dimensional control before and after hardening is critical.
This flat stock is suited for toolroom and production environments that require reliable A2 air-hardening steel in a ready-to-machine form. The 7/8 inch thickness and 6 inch width make it appropriate for medium-to-large die sections, forming tools, and blanking dies. Its dimensional tolerances are held to tight commercial standards, which reduces pre-machining stock removal and supports accurate layout work directly from the bar.
Designed as a standard A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock for use in toolroom, die-making, and precision machining applications requiring AISI A2 cold-work tool steel material.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers using appropriate metalworking equipment. Follow the steel manufacturer's recommended heat-treatment cycle for A2 tool steel, including proper preheat, austenitizing, air-quench, and double-temper procedures. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when cutting or grinding. Consult applicable shop safety standards and the material safety data sheet before processing.
