The STARRETT 57622 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar measuring 0.625 inches thick, 6 inches wide, and 18 inches long. A2 tool steel is an air-hardening, cold-work die steel known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment, moderate toughness, and good wear resistance. This flat stock is supplied in the annealed condition, ready for machining, grinding, and subsequent heat treatment. Machinists, tool and die makers, and toolroom professionals use this material to fabricate punches, dies, gauges, and other precision tooling components where consistent tolerance control is critical.
This flat stock is suited for cold-work tooling applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The 6-inch width and 18-inch length make it practical for medium-sized die sections, blanking punches, forming tools, and fixture components. Thickness tolerance is held to +0.010 to 0.015 inches, width tolerance to +0.010 to 0.015 inches, and length tolerance to +0.25 inches, providing a reliable starting blank that minimizes excess stock removal during machining.
Designed as a standard A2 tool steel flat stock blank suitable for cold-work tooling, die making, and precision machining applications where air-hardening steel is specified.
Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel using appropriate cutting fluids and HSS or carbide tooling. Heat treatment to harden A2 tool steel should be performed by a qualified heat treater following established metallurgical procedures. Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting or grinding tool steel. Consult applicable shop safety standards and material safety data before processing.
