The STARRETT 57529 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, and precision machining applications. Measuring 5/16 inches thick, 3/4 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this flat stock ships in an annealed condition ready for machining, then hardens by air quench after heat treatment. A2 tool steel offers a good balance of wear resistance and toughness, making it a reliable choice for punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. At 1.21 pounds, the piece is easy to handle and cut to final length on the shop floor. Tolerances are held tight across all dimensions, supporting accurate stock removal and precision fit-up.
This flat stock is suited for tool and die shops, machine shops, and maintenance departments working on small to medium production tooling. Typical applications include blanking dies, form dies, trim punches, and fixture components where dimensional consistency matters. The 18-inch length provides working material for most single-component tool blanks. Machinists and tool and die makers are the primary users of this material.
Designed as a standard A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock for general toolmaking and die-making applications requiring AISI A2 material specification.
Cutting and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers using appropriate metalworking equipment. Secure the workpiece firmly before cutting to prevent movement and ensure accurate dimensions. Heat treatment, including hardening and tempering, should follow established A2 tool steel procedures and be performed by personnel familiar with metallurgical requirements. Allow the material to cool fully and inspect dimensions before final grinding or finishing operations.
