The STARRETT 57525 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. It measures 0.25 inches thick, 0.75 inches wide, and 18 inches long, weighing 0.95 pounds. A2 tool steel offers excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment, making it a reliable choice when tight post-hardening tolerances are required. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, width tolerance runs plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and length tolerance is plus 0.250 inches. These tight tolerances reduce secondary grinding and fitting time on the bench. Machinists, tool and die makers, and mold makers are the primary installers of this material.
This flat stock is suited for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and other precision tooling components. A2 tool steel machines well in the annealed state and hardens with an air quench, which minimizes distortion compared to oil- or water-hardening grades. The 18-inch length provides workable stock for a wide range of toolroom cuts. This material is sold in single-piece quantity and is appropriate for both prototype work and short production runs where dimensional consistency is critical.
Designed as a standard A2 tool steel flat stock bar suitable for toolroom, die shop, and precision machining applications requiring air-hardening material in this size range.
Cutting and machining should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers using appropriate metalworking equipment. Follow established shop safety practices when sawing, milling, or grinding tool steel. Heat treatment, including hardening and tempering, should be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with the material manufacturer recommendations for AISI A2 tool steel. Always allow material to reach ambient temperature before taking final measurements.
