The STARRETT 57512 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock blank used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Measuring 0.125 inches thick, 12 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this flat stock is produced to tight dimensional tolerances: plus or minus 0.001 inches on thickness and squareness, plus 0.000 to 0.015 inches on width, and plus 0.250 inches on length. A2 tool steel offers good wear resistance, dimensional stability during heat treatment, and machinability in the annealed state. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and industrial maintenance technicians work with this material to fabricate punches, dies, gauges, and custom tooling components.
This flat stock is suited for job shops, tool rooms, and maintenance departments requiring a readily workable blank that can be machined to final dimensions before hardening. Machining and heat treatment of tool steel should be performed by qualified tool-and-die makers or machinists familiar with A2 steel processing. All grinding, EDM, and finishing operations should follow established shop practices and applicable safety standards for metal cutting and heat treating. Allow stock to reach ambient temperature before taking final measurements.
