The STARRETT 57325 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar sized at 5/32 inches thick, 1/2 inch wide, and 36 inches long. A2 tool steel is a versatile, oil-free air-hardening grade known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and good wear resistance, making it a standard choice for dies, punches, gauges, and precision tooling components. This bar ships in a ground, precision-tolerance condition with a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inch, a width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch, a length tolerance of plus 0.25 inch, and a squareness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inch. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working with precision tooling stock will find this bar ready for layout, machining, and subsequent heat treat operations.
This flat stock is suited for fabrication of cutting tools, fixture components, jigs, mold components, and wear parts in both job-shop and production tooling environments. Cutting, grinding, and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die makers using appropriate tooling for hardened or semi-hardened steel as applicable. When heat treating A2 tool steel, follow the material manufacturer's published hardening and tempering guidelines and use proper personal protective equipment. Allow the bar to reach ambient temperature before precision measurement after any grinding or thermal operation. Deburr all edges after cutting to prevent handling injury and to ensure accurate fixturing.
