The STARRETT 57319 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, and precision machining applications. It measures 0.125 inches thick, 0.625 inches wide, and 36 inches long, and ships at 0.91 pounds. A2 tool steel offers excellent dimensional stability during heat treatment, making it a reliable choice for punches, dies, gauges, and similar toolroom components. Thickness and squareness tolerances are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, giving machinists and tool-and-die workers a consistent, ready-to-machine blank right out of the box.
This flat stock is suited for toolroom, job shop, and industrial maintenance environments where close-tolerance A2 steel is required in small quantities. It is commonly used to fabricate custom punches, form dies, cutting tools, and fixture components. The 36-inch length allows multiple blanks to be cut from a single piece, reducing material waste in short-run toolmaking work. It is appropriate for both prototype and production tooling setups.
Designed as a general-purpose A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for standard toolroom and die-making applications requiring AISI A2 material specification.
Cutting and machining should be performed by qualified tool-and-die makers or machinists using appropriate cutting fluids and tooling rated for tool steel. Heat treatment to harden A2 steel should follow established metallurgical procedures and applicable shop safety protocols. Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting, grinding, or heat-treating tool steel stock. Verify final dimensions after machining and before hardening to account for any minor distortion during the air-hardening process.
