The STARRETT 57308 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die-making, and precision machining applications. It measures 0.0625 inches thick, 3 inches wide, and 36 inches long, and is manufactured to tight dimensional tolerances: plus or minus 0.001 inches on thickness, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches on width, and plus 0.25 inches on length. Squareness is held to 0.003 inches per inch on all edges. A2 tool steel offers good wear resistance and dimensional stability through the hardening process, making it a reliable choice for blanks, fixtures, and cutting tool stock.
This flat stock is suited for job shops, tool and die operations, and maintenance toolrooms where precision ground stock in A2 tool steel is required. It ships in the annealed condition and can be machined, ground, and heat-treated to final hardness by the end user. The 36-inch length provides enough material for most bench-size tooling blanks, stripper plates, and flat die components without requiring additional cutting on delivery.
Designed as a standard A2 tool steel flat stock blank suitable for general toolmaking, die-making, and fixture fabrication applications requiring air-hardening steel in ground flat form.
Machining and grinding of A2 tool steel flat stock should be performed by qualified tool and die makers or machinists familiar with tool steel handling. Heat treatment to final hardness requires controlled atmosphere or vacuum furnace equipment and should follow established A2 hardening and tempering procedures. Secure workpieces properly before any cutting or grinding operations. Always wear appropriate PPE when machining tool steel stock.
