The STARRETT 57307 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar supplied in a 0.0625-inch thickness, 2.5-inch width, and 36-inch length. A2 tool steel is known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and its balanced combination of wear resistance and toughness, making it a go-to material for dies, punches, gauges, and fixture components. This flat stock is held to tight tolerances from the mill, ready for layout, machining, or direct use as a tooling blank. It weighs 1.83 pounds per bar. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance shops use this stock when consistent cross-section and predictable hardening response are required.
This flat bar is suited for fabrication of precision tooling components in job shops, maintenance departments, and industrial tool rooms. Typical applications include blanking dies, forming punches, wear plates, and gauging fixtures where air-hardening steel is specified. The 36-inch length provides enough stock for most single-piece tooling blanks or can be cut down for multiple smaller components. Each bar ships individually, with a minimum order quantity of one piece.
Designed as a standard AISI A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock suitable for machining, grinding, and heat treatment operations typical in tool-and-die and general industrial tooling applications.
Cutting and machining of tool steel flat stock should be performed with appropriate metal-cutting equipment by qualified machinists or tool-and-die tradespeople. Eye and hand protection are required when sawing or grinding. Heat treatment of A2 tool steel should follow the material specification guidelines for air-hardening grades; consult the steel supplier data sheet for recommended austenitizing and tempering temperatures before processing.
