The STARRETT 57255 is a low carbon steel flat bar stock cut to 24 x 3.5 x 0.875 inches and manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification. C1018 is a mild, low carbon steel widely used in general fabrication, machining, and structural applications where moderate strength and excellent weldability are required. The stock ships at 20.82 pounds and holds tight dimensional tolerances: plus 0.625 inches on length, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches on width, and plus or minus 0.001 inches on both thickness and squareness. These controlled tolerances make it suitable for layout work, tool and fixture building, and precision flat stock applications.
C1018 flat bar is a standard shop-floor material used by machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and maintenance technicians in both light industrial and commercial settings. It is commonly used for brackets, keys, shims, fixtures, spacers, and support plates. The consistent cross-section and close width and thickness tolerances reduce secondary machining time when dimensional accuracy matters at the start of a job. This piece is sold individually as a single-length bar.
Designed as a general-purpose C1018 low carbon steel flat bar suitable for machining, fabrication, and structural support applications where AISI C1018 material specification is required.
Handle with appropriate lifting technique or mechanical assist given the 20.82-pound bar weight. Cut, drill, or machine using tools rated for mild carbon steel stock. Deburr all cut edges before use in assemblies or fixtures. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE when cutting or grinding.
