The STARRETT 57232 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die work, punch fabrication, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specification, this flat stock measures 5/16 inches thick, 3/8 inches wide, and 18 inches long, with a weight of 0.6 pounds. Thickness tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, and squareness is maintained at 0.003 inches per inch on all edges. O1 tool steel responds well to oil quenching and is valued for its dimensional stability and machinability in the annealed state.
This flat stock suits toolroom professionals, machinists, and tool-and-die makers working in job shops, maintenance departments, and manufacturing facilities. It is appropriate for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, cutting tools, and general toolroom blanks where precise tolerances and good wear resistance after heat treatment are required. The 18-inch length provides practical stock for a range of small-to-medium toolroom components. Each piece is supplied individually at a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for general toolroom stock applications where AISI Type O1 material specification is required.
Machining and heat treatment of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die makers using appropriate equipment. Material should be fully stress-relieved and annealed prior to precision grinding. Oil quench hardening must be performed according to established metallurgical procedures for O1 tool steel. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting, grinding, or heat-treating tool steel stock.
