The STARRETT 57202 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock blank sized at 0.5 inches thick, 4 inches wide, and 18 inches long. A2 tool steel is a versatile cold-work steel that hardens in still air, offering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for dies, punches, gauges, and precision tooling. This flat stock ships in an annealed condition and is ready for machining, grinding, or EDM work before heat treatment. Tolerances are held to +0.010 to 0.015 inches on thickness, width, and squareness, and +0.25 inches on length, making it consistent stock for tool and die makers, machinists, and mold makers.
This flat bar is well suited for tool room and production shop applications requiring a reliable, dimensionally consistent A2 air-hardening steel blank. Typical uses include cutting dies, forming punches, jigs, fixtures, and wear plates in both job shop and industrial manufacturing environments. The 18-inch length provides enough stock for multiple tool blanks from a single piece. This material is handled and processed by tool and die makers, machinists, and metalworking professionals.
Designed as a standard A2 tool steel flat stock blank suitable for general tool room, die making, and precision machining applications requiring air-hardening cold-work steel.
This material is machined and heat treated by qualified tool and die makers or machinists. All grinding, milling, and finishing operations should be completed before hardening unless post-heat-treat grinding is planned with adequate stock allowance. Heat treatment should follow established A2 tool steel austenitizing and air-quench procedures per the material specification. Wear appropriate PPE when cutting or grinding tool steel stock.
