The STARRETT 57054 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar measuring 1 inch thick by 1 inch wide by 18 inches long. O1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade known for good machinability in the annealed state and the ability to achieve high hardness after heat treatment. This bar is supplied in flat stock form with closely controlled tolerances, making it well suited for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, and similar precision tooling. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers are the primary users. The piece weighs approximately 5.1 pounds.
This flat stock is used in job shops, tool-and-die operations, and maintenance-and-repair applications where a readily machinable, oil-hardening steel blank is required. The 18-inch length provides enough stock to yield multiple small tooling pieces from a single bar. It is appropriate for both prototype and production tooling applications that require moderate wear resistance after hardening.
Designed as a general-purpose O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock blank suitable for machining into punches, dies, gauges, and other tooling components requiring oil-quench heat treatment.
Cutting and machining of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists using appropriate feeds, speeds, and cutting fluids for tool steel. Heat treatment to achieve final hardness should follow established procedures for AISI O1 tool steel and be performed by qualified heat-treat personnel. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting, grinding, or handling steel stock. Secure the workpiece firmly before any machining operation.
