The STARRETT 57042 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar measuring 0.75 inches thick, 0.75 inches wide, and 18 inches long. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 material specification, this flat stock is produced from tool steel with consistent dimensional tolerances suitable for tool and die work, jig components, punches, and custom tooling applications. Thickness and width tolerances are held to +0.010 to +0.015 inches, and length tolerance is +0.25 inches. Edge squareness is held to 0.003 inches per inch across all edges. Machinists, toolmakers, and metalworking professionals use this stock as a starting blank for ground or hardened tooling components.
O1 tool steel flat stock is widely used in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments for fabricating custom tooling, blanks, gauges, and wear components. The oil-hardening grade offers good machinability in the annealed state and responds well to conventional heat treatment. This bar is suited for applications where dimensional consistency and material traceability are required before hardening and grinding operations.
Designed as an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar for use in tool room, die shop, and general metalworking applications requiring AISI Type O1 material specification.
Cutting, grinding, and heat treatment of tool steel should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers using appropriate equipment and personal protective equipment. Follow established shop practices for annealing, hardening, and tempering O1 tool steel, including proper quench media selection for oil-hardening grades. Refer to material supplier data sheets and applicable shop safety standards before performing heat treatment operations.
