The STARRETT 57007 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in precision toolmaking, die making, and machining applications. It measures 0.375 inches thick, 3.5 inches wide, and 18 inches long, and ships ready for machining or grinding to final size. O1 tool steel offers good machinability in the annealed state and responds predictably to oil-quench hardening. Thickness and width tolerances run +0.0100 to +0.0150 inches, with a length tolerance of +0.25 inches and squareness held to 0.003 inches per inch on all edges. At 6.69 pounds, this flat bar suits small to medium toolroom projects.
This flat stock is suited for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools in professional toolroom and machine shop environments. It is intended for use in applications where oil-hardened tool steel is specified, including both production and prototype work. The annealed condition allows conventional milling, drilling, and grinding before heat treatment. Machinists, toolmakers, and die makers are the primary installers of this material.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar suitable for toolroom, die-making, and fixture-fabrication applications where AISI Type O1 material is specified.
Material should be machined or ground to final dimensions before oil-quench hardening; heat treatment after final machining is the standard toolroom workflow. Use appropriate personal protective equipment when cutting or grinding tool steel. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA guidelines when operating machine tools. Dispose of metal chips and cutting fluids in accordance with local regulations.
