The STARRETT 57003 is an O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat stock bar used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. Manufactured to AISI Type O1 specifications, this flat stock measures 3/8 inch thick, 1-1/2 inches wide, and 18 inches long. Thickness and width tolerances are held to +0.0100 to +0.0150 inches, and length tolerance is +0.250 inches. Edge squareness is maintained at 0.003 inches per inch across all edges. At 2.87 pounds, this is a manageable stock length suited for bench work or light milling before heat treatment.
O1 tool steel flat stock is used in job shops, tool-and-die operations, and maintenance machining environments. It is the preferred material for punches, dies, gauges, reamers, and similar tooling components that will undergo oil-quench hardening after machining. This bar is supplied in the annealed condition, making it machinable prior to hardening. It is suited for both one-off tooling fabrication and short production runs where precise dimensional tolerances are required before heat treatment.
Designed as a standard O1 oil-hardening tool steel flat bar for use in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications requiring AISI Type O1 material specification.
This flat stock is supplied in the annealed condition and intended for machining prior to heat treatment. Cutting, milling, and grinding should be completed before oil-quench hardening. Heat treatment should be performed by qualified personnel following established practices for AISI O1 tool steel, including proper soak temperature, oil quench medium, and temper cycle. Always use appropriate PPE and follow shop safety procedures when machining or heat-treating tool steel.
