The STARRETT 56807 is a dial drop indicator designed for precise linear measurement in inspection, machining, and quality control applications. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 1 inch with a graduation of 0.001 inches, allowing technicians to detect small deviations in surface height, runout, or alignment. The 2-1/4 inch white dial face features a no-glare satin finish and a 0-100 reading scale with a built-in revolution counter to track full rotations. The stainless steel stem and jeweled bearing provide durability and consistent accuracy across repeated use. Machinists, metrology technicians, and quality control inspectors are the typical users of this instrument.
The 56807 is suited for use on surface plates, magnetic bases, height stands, and machine tool setups in both shop floor and laboratory environments. It is applicable to tasks such as checking workpiece flatness, spindle runout, part alignment, and fixture verification. The lug back mount is the primary attachment style, and the included flat back provides an alternative mounting option. With 0.1 inch of travel per revolution, it is well matched to applications requiring fine incremental measurements over a moderate total range.
Designed as a standard English-unit dial drop indicator compatible with universal lug back and flat back mounting accessories, magnetic bases, and indicator holders accepting a 0.375 inch stem diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians using a compatible holder, clamp, or magnetic base. Secure the stem firmly in the holder to prevent slippage during measurement. Ensure the indicator stem is oriented perpendicular to the measurement surface for accurate readings. Do not overtighten the stem clamp, as this can damage the stem or introduce measurement error.
