The STARRETT 55054 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 24 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 1 inch thick, with a finished weight of 81.59 pounds. C1018 is a general-purpose low carbon steel known for consistent machinability, weldability, and moderate strength — well suited for fabrication, fixturing, and structural applications in the trades. Tolerances are tightly controlled: thickness and squareness are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, width to plus 0.000 to 0.015 inches, and length to plus 0.625 inches. This stock is sold individually as a single piece.
This flat bar is used across a broad range of fabrication and trade applications including HVAC equipment bases, support brackets, electrical panel framing, plumbing support structures, and general machine shop work. The 24 by 12 by 1 inch format provides substantial cross-section for load-bearing frames, weld-up assemblies, and custom-cut parts. Machinists, fabricators, pipefitters, and HVAC sheet metal technicians commonly work with C1018 flat stock when dimensional accuracy and clean weld prep are priorities.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bar for fabrication, structural, and machine shop applications where AISI C1018 low carbon steel material specification is required.
Cutting, drilling, and welding of C1018 flat stock should be performed by qualified fabricators or trade mechanics using appropriate personal protective equipment and shop ventilation. Verify final dimensions after cutting, as supplied length includes a plus tolerance allowance. When welding, follow applicable AWS guidelines and allow material to cool adequately before final assembly or load application. Support the stock properly during handling and positioning — at 81.59 pounds, safe material handling practices and mechanical assists are recommended.
