The STARRETT 55052 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 24 inches long, 9 inches wide, and 1 inch thick, and weighs 61.2 pounds. C1018 is a widely used mild steel grade valued for its consistent mechanical properties, good machinability, and weldability. This flat stock ships as a single piece and is intended for use as raw material in fabrication, tooling, fixturing, and general metalworking applications. Machinists, tool and die makers, maintenance welders, and fabricators are the typical end users. Tolerances are held to tight commercial standards suitable for precision layout and machined component work.
This flat stock is suited for job shop fabrication, maintenance and repair operations, and industrial tooling builds where a machinable low carbon steel is specified. The 1-inch thickness makes it appropriate for structural supports, brackets, jigs, fixtures, and base plates in both light industrial and heavy shop environments. The single-piece package quantity allows procurement of exactly the quantity needed without overage. C1018 is readily tapped, drilled, milled, and welded using standard shop equipment, making this bar practical across a wide range of metalworking tasks.
Designed as a general-purpose raw material flat bar for metalworking, fabrication, and tooling applications where AISI C1018 low carbon steel stock is specified.
Handle with appropriate lifting equipment given the 61.2-pound unit weight. Secure the workpiece properly in a vise or fixture before cutting, drilling, or milling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and wear appropriate PPE when machining or welding steel stock. Inspect all edges for burrs after cutting and deburr before use in precision assemblies.
