The STARRETT 55046 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar measuring 24 inches in length, 3 inches in width, and 1 inch in thickness. Manufactured to AISI Type C1018 specification, it delivers consistent machinability, weldability, and mild hardness suitable for a wide range of fabrication tasks. The bar holds tight tolerances — plus or minus 0.001 inches on thickness and squareness, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches on width, and plus 0.625 inches on length — making it appropriate for precision layout work, jig fabrication, brackets, and general machine shop applications. Machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and tool and die tradespeople are the primary users of this material.
This flat stock is suited for light industrial and commercial fabrication environments where a reliable, tight-tolerance mild steel bar is required. Common applications include keyway blanks, spacers, fixture components, slide rails, and support brackets. The C1018 alloy responds well to turning, milling, drilling, and cold forming operations, and it accepts welding without significant pre-treatment under standard shop conditions.
