The STARRETT 55039 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 24 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 0.875 inches thick, and weighs 23.8 pounds. C1018 is a general-purpose low carbon steel known for consistent machinability, weldability, and surface finish — a standard choice for fabrication, tooling fixtures, jigs, and structural components. Tolerances are tightly held: length tolerance is plus 0.625 inches, width tolerance is plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and thickness and square tolerance are each plus or minus 0.001 inches. Machinists, fabricators, and millwrights are the primary installers and end users of this stock material.
This flat stock is suited for general industrial and commercial fabrication applications where a readily machinable, weldable mild steel is required. Typical uses include machine bases, brackets, wear plates, tooling components, and custom structural members. The consistent dimensional tolerances make it appropriate for applications where close-fit mating surfaces or precise stock removal is part of the machining process. It is sold individually as a single piece per package.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bar stock suitable for fabrication, machining, and structural applications requiring AISI C1018 low carbon steel in 24 x 4 x 0.875 inch dimensions.
Handle with appropriate material handling equipment given the 23.8 pound piece weight. Secure workpiece properly before any machining, cutting, or drilling operations. Follow applicable shop safety standards and wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when cutting or grinding. Deburr all cut edges before assembly or handling.
