The STARRETT 55023 is a low carbon steel flat bar cut to 24 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 0.75 inches thick, manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It is a general-purpose steel flat stock used for fabrication, tooling fixtures, machine bases, and structural support applications. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians work with this stock for layout work, custom brackets, and precision flat surfaces. At 15.3 pounds per piece, it offers substantial mass in a manageable form factor. Tolerances are held tight: plus 0.625 inches on length, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches on width, and plus or minus 0.001 inches on both thickness and squareness.
This flat stock suits job shop and industrial maintenance environments where consistent geometry and predictable machining behavior are required. C1018 low carbon steel machines cleanly, welds readily, and accepts surface treatments including case hardening and plating. It is appropriate for light structural members, wear plates, shims, and custom tooling components in both production and one-off fabrication settings. Sold as a single piece per package with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bar for fabrication, tooling, and maintenance applications requiring AISI C1018 low carbon steel in a 24 x 3 x 0.75 inch form factor.
Cut, drill, and machine using tooling rated for mild steel; carbide or high-speed steel tooling is appropriate. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when cutting or grinding. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting into assemblies. If welding, follow applicable AWS D1.1 structural welding guidelines for low carbon steel.
