The STARRETT 55017 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar cut to 24 inches in length with a 0.75 inch width and 0.75 inch thickness. Manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification, this flat stock delivers consistent dimensional accuracy with tight tolerances suitable for precision layout, fabrication, and machining work. Length tolerance is held to plus 0.625 inches, width tolerance to plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and both thickness and square tolerance to plus or minus 0.001 inches. Machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and maintenance technicians use C1018 flat stock as a raw material for brackets, fixtures, shims, and general structural components where weldability and machinability are priorities.
This flat stock is suited for light industrial fabrication, maintenance and repair operations, tool and die work, and general metalworking applications. The C1018 low carbon steel composition machines cleanly, welds readily, and accepts surface treatments including case hardening. At 3.83 pounds per piece, the 24-inch bar is a practical bench or shop stock length for single-piece or small-batch work. It ships as a single piece with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as a general-purpose raw material flat stock bar for metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance applications where AISI C1018 low carbon steel is specified.
Cutting, drilling, or grinding operations on steel flat stock should be performed with appropriate eye and hand protection and adequate workholding. Deburr all cut edges before handling or assembly. When welding C1018 steel, follow applicable AWS guidelines and ensure proper ventilation. Surface scale or minor mill marks are normal and do not affect dimensional conformance within the stated tolerances.
