The STARRETT 55014 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 24 inches in length, 8 inches in width, and 0.625 inches in thickness, with a finished weight of 34 pounds. C1018 is a general-purpose low carbon steel with good machinability and weldability, making it a common choice for machined components, fixture bases, spacers, and fabricated structural parts. Tolerances are tightly controlled: thickness and square are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches, width to plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and length to a plus 0.625 inch tolerance. Machinists, fabricators, and tool-and-die shops are the primary end users.
This flat stock is suited for general metalworking and industrial fabrication applications in both job-shop and production environments. It is used as raw material for machined parts, shims, wear plates, backing bars, and structural weldments where close dimensional control is required. The AISI C1018 grade is compatible with common machining, drilling, tapping, and welding processes. It is not intended for high-hardness or case-hardening applications without further heat treatment.
Designed as a standard AISI C1018 low carbon steel flat bar for general industrial machining, fabrication, and welding applications where controlled dimensional tolerances are required.
Cutting, drilling, or machining should be performed with tooling rated for low carbon steel stock. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves when handling flat bar stock. Secure the workpiece firmly before any machining or cutting operation. Consult applicable shop safety standards and relevant OSHA guidelines before beginning work.
