The STARRETT 54966 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar measuring 24 inches long, 3/4 inch wide, and 3/8 inch thick, manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification. This cold-finished flat bar is a standard raw stock form used in fabrication, machining, and general metalworking applications. The piece holds a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inch and a width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch, making it suitable for applications that require consistent dimensional control. At 1.91 pounds per piece, it is a single-length bar intended for bench work, fixture building, bracket fabrication, and light structural applications. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
This flat stock is suited for job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing environments. C1018 low carbon steel is one of the most widely used general-purpose steel grades due to its good machinability, weldability, and moderate strength. It is commonly cut to length, drilled, tapped, welded, or surface ground on site. The 24-inch length provides a practical working blank for most bench-level fabrication tasks without requiring additional saw cutting in many cases.
Designed as a general-purpose raw material flat bar for use in fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications where AISI C1018 low carbon steel stock in a 3/8 inch by 3/4 inch cross section is required.
Handle cut edges with care, as sheared or sawn ends may be sharp. Machinists and fabricators should deburr all cut surfaces before use in assemblies. Standard metalworking practices apply for cutting, drilling, welding, and finishing C1018 steel. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when processing raw steel stock.
