The STARRETT 54961 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar measuring 5/16 inch thick, 6 inches wide, and 24 inches long. Manufactured to AISI Type C1018 specification, this material offers consistent mechanical properties suited to machining, fabrication, and general metalworking applications. The bar ships as a single piece at 12.76 pounds and holds tight dimensional tolerances: plus or minus 0.001 inch on thickness and square, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch on width, and plus 0.625 inch on length. Machinists, fabricators, and tool-and-die shops rely on C1018 flat stock for its weldability and predictable response to cutting and forming operations.
This flat stock is suited to light fabrication, fixture building, bracket stock, keystock blanks, and general repair work in production shops, maintenance departments, and job shops. The 24-inch length and 6-inch width provide a useful starting blank for parts that require further sawing, milling, or drilling. The tight thickness and squareness tolerances reduce secondary grinding time when dimensional accuracy matters. One piece is included per package.
Designed as a general-purpose C1018 low carbon steel flat bar for machining, welding, and fabrication applications where AISI Type C1018 material specification is required.
Cutting and machining operations should be performed using appropriate guarding and personal protective equipment per shop safety standards. Secure the bar firmly in a vise or fixture before sawing, drilling, or milling. Edges and cut ends will be sharp — deburr before handling or fitting. Welding this material is straightforward with standard MIG or stick processes; follow applicable AWS guidelines for joint preparation and preheat if section thickness requires it.
