The STARRETT 54955 is a low carbon steel flat bar cut to 24 x 2 x 5/16 inches and produced to AISI Type C1018 material specification. C1018 is a mild, low carbon steel widely used in general fabrication, tooling fixtures, machine bases, brackets, and structural supports where moderate strength and good machinability are the priority. The stock ships as a single piece and is held to tight dimensional tolerances: thickness and squareness are controlled to plus or minus 0.001 inches, width is held to a plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch tolerance, and length carries a plus 0.625 inch tolerance. At 4.24 pounds, it is sized for bench or machine work without additional handling equipment.
This flat stock is suited to job shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication shops that need ready-to-machine bar in small quantities. Typical applications include weld-up fixtures, shims, key stock blanks, mounting plates, tie bars, and general repair parts. It is appropriate for any trade or industrial environment where C1018 cold-rolled or equivalent mild steel is specified. The 24-inch length allows most common cuts without requiring a full bar saw setup, making it practical for one-off parts and small-run repair work.
Designed as a standard-dimension C1018 low carbon steel flat bar suitable for general metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance applications where AISI C1018 material specification is required.
Cutting, drilling, and welding of C1018 flat stock should be performed by qualified metalworkers or machinists using appropriate personal protective equipment including eye and hand protection. Deburr all cut edges before fitting or handling. If welding, follow applicable AWS guidelines and ensure adequate ventilation. Store flat stock horizontally on a supported rack to prevent bowing or warping over time.
