The STARRETT 54937 is a cold-finished low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 specification. It measures 0.25 inches thick, 1 inch wide, and 24 inches long, with tightly controlled tolerances that make it suitable for precision machining, fabrication, and layout work. Thickness and squareness are held to plus or minus 0.001 inches. Width tolerance is held to plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and length tolerance allows a plus 0.625-inch overage. C1018 is a free-machining grade that drills, taps, and mills cleanly, making it a common choice for toolroom stock and general-purpose mechanical fabrication.
This flat stock is used in machine shops, fabrication shops, and maintenance environments where accurate, ready-to-machine steel bar is needed. Typical applications include keystock, brackets, spacers, guides, jigs, and fixture components. The pre-finished surface and tight dimensional tolerances reduce setup time and allow the bar to be cut to final length or machined directly to drawing dimensions without additional surface preparation in most applications.
Designed as a general-purpose flat stock bar for machining and fabrication applications requiring AISI C1018 low carbon steel in a 0.25 x 1 x 24-inch format.
Cutting, drilling, and machining operations should be performed by qualified machinists or fabricators using appropriate tooling for low carbon steel. Secure the bar firmly in a vise or fixture before cutting to prevent movement. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting into assemblies. Use appropriate personal protective equipment during all cutting and machining operations.
