The STARRETT 54934 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made to AISI Type C1018 material specification. It measures 3/16 inch thick, 10 inches wide, and 24 inches long and weighs 12.76 pounds. C1018 is a mild, low carbon steel widely used in general fabrication, machining, and structural applications where weldability and machinability matter more than high strength. Tolerances are tightly controlled: thickness and squareness hold to plus or minus 0.001 inch, width tolerance runs plus 0.000 to 0.015 inch, and length tolerance is plus 0.625 inch. Licensed machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This flat stock is suited for job-shop and maintenance applications including brackets, spacers, shims, wear plates, and structural supports. Its 24-inch length and 10-inch width make it a practical starting blank for cut-to-size work on a bandsaw, cold saw, or milling machine. C1018 accepts MIG and TIG welding without special pre-heat in most shop conditions, and it responds well to drilling, tapping, and light turning. The controlled width and thickness tolerances reduce secondary cleanup time when dimensional accuracy is required out of stock.
Designed as a general-purpose C1018 low carbon steel flat bar suitable for fabrication, machining, and maintenance repair applications across industrial, commercial, and trade shop environments.
Cut, drill, or machine using tooling rated for mild carbon steel. Secure the workpiece firmly in a vise or fixture before any cutting or drilling operation. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when handling cut steel stock with sharp edges. Welding this material should follow applicable AWS guidelines for low carbon steel.
