The STARRETT 54927 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar cut to 24 inches in length, 2.5 inches wide, and 3/16 inch thick. It is manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification, a mild low carbon steel grade widely used in fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. Tight dimensional tolerances are held across all axes: plus or minus 0.001 inch on thickness and squareness, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch on width, and plus 0.625 inch on length. This flat stock is suited for use by machinists, millwrights, fabricators, and maintenance technicians who need a reliable, close-tolerance raw material for layout, shimming, bracket fabrication, or general metalwork.
This flat bar is appropriate for light to medium fabrication tasks in both commercial and industrial maintenance settings. Its C1018 composition makes it readily machinable and weldable, which suits applications such as keystock, support brackets, strap fabrication, and custom hardware. It is a single-piece unit and is commonly stocked by trades needing on-hand raw stock for field or shop fabrication work.
Designed as a general-purpose low carbon steel flat stock for fabrication, repair, and maintenance applications where AISI C1018 material specification is required.
Cutting, drilling, and welding of C1018 flat stock should be performed by qualified machinists or fabricators using appropriate tooling and personal protective equipment. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting to mating components. If this stock is being welded into a structural assembly, follow applicable welding codes and procedures for low carbon steel.
