The STARRETT 54926 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar measuring 3/16 inch thick by 2 inches wide by 24 inches long. Manufactured to AISI Type C1018 material specification, it provides consistent machinability and weldability suited to precision fabrication work. Thickness and squareness are held to a tight plus or minus 0.001 inch tolerance, while width tolerance is plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch and length tolerance is plus 0.625 inch. These controlled tolerances make it appropriate for jigs, fixtures, brackets, and other structural or tooling components where dimensional consistency matters. The piece ships as a single bar at a finished weight of 2.56 pounds.
This flat stock is used across metal fabrication shops, machine shops, and maintenance facilities. It is well suited for light structural parts, weld-up assemblies, and shop-made tooling components. C1018 is a free-machining grade that responds well to drilling, milling, turning, and tapping without special preparation. It is also commonly used by HVAC and plumbing contractors for field-fabricated hangers, brackets, and equipment supports where a mild, weldable steel bar stock is required.
Designed as a general-purpose mild steel flat bar suitable for fabrication, structural support, and tooling applications where AISI C1018 low carbon steel stock is specified.
Cutting, drilling, or welding of steel flat stock should be performed by qualified personnel using appropriate personal protective equipment including eye and hand protection. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting. When used as a structural hanger or bracket in mechanical systems, verify that fastener selection and load ratings comply with applicable local codes and project specifications.
