The STARRETT 54924 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar made from AISI Type C1018 material, measuring 24 inches long, 1-1/4 inches wide, and 3/16 inches thick. This cold-finished flat bar is used in fabrication, maintenance, and repair work where consistent dimensional tolerances are required. It holds a length tolerance of plus 0.625 inches, a width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches. Machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and general maintenance tradespeople use this stock for brackets, shims, jigs, and structural support applications requiring tight dimensional control.
This flat stock is suited for light fabrication in commercial and industrial maintenance environments. It is commonly used on shop floors, in mechanical rooms, and in field repair scenarios where a reliable, machinable low carbon steel is required. C1018 is a free-machining grade that responds well to drilling, tapping, welding, and bending. It is sold individually, making it practical for single-piece repair and prototype work as well as production use.
Designed as a general-purpose flat bar stock for fabrication, repair, and maintenance applications requiring AISI C1018 low carbon steel in a 3/16 inch thickness.
Cut to final length with a metal-cutting bandsaw, cold saw, or abrasive cutoff wheel before installation or further machining. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting into assemblies. Standard machining practices apply for drilling and tapping C1018 steel. Use appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when cutting or grinding this material.
