The STARRETT 54901 is a low carbon steel flat bar cut to 24 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, and 0.125 inches thick. It is manufactured to Type C1010 material specification, a mild steel grade widely used in fabrication, maintenance, and structural applications where weldability and machinability are priorities. The bar is held to tight dimensional tolerances — plus 0.625 inches on length, plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches on width, and plus or minus 0.001 inches on both thickness and squareness. At 2.98 pounds per piece, it is a practical stock size for jobsite cuts and shop work. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This flat stock is suited for general-purpose fabrication tasks including brackets, shims, supports, strapping, and repair plate work. Its C1010 low carbon chemistry makes it easy to weld, drill, and cut with standard shop tools. The 24-inch length accommodates common layout and cutting operations without excess material waste. It is appropriate for both light industrial and commercial maintenance applications wherever mild steel bar stock is called for.
Designed as a general-purpose mild steel flat bar suitable for fabrication, repair, and maintenance work wherever Type C1010 low carbon steel flat stock is specified.
Use of this material should follow applicable safety practices for cutting and shaping steel bar stock — wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and cut-resistant gloves. Cut with a band saw, cold saw, or angle grinder with a metal-rated disc; deburr all cut edges before installation. Welding of C1010 steel should be performed by qualified personnel following applicable AWS standards. Always verify dimensional fit before final assembly.
