The STARRETT 54877 is a low carbon steel flat stock bar measuring 1/16 inch thick by 6 inches wide by 24 inches long, manufactured to Type C1010 material specification. This flat bar is a general-purpose raw steel stock used in fabrication, machining, toolmaking, and repair applications. Its low carbon content makes it suitable for bending, welding, and light machining without the brittleness of higher-carbon grades. Thickness and square tolerances are held to plus or minus 0.001 inch, and width tolerance is held to plus 0.000 to 0.005 inch, making this a dimensionally consistent piece for precision layout and fabrication work. Weight is 2.55 pounds per piece.
This flat stock is suited to both shop and field use by machinists, fabricators, millwrights, and maintenance technicians. Common applications include brackets, shims, spacers, wear plates, templates, and general structural repairs. The 24-inch length provides a practical working blank for a wide range of cut-to-size jobs. Type C1010 low carbon steel is readily weldable with standard MIG, TIG, or stick processes and accepts most common surface treatments including painting and plating.
Designed as a general-purpose low carbon steel flat stock suitable for fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications across industrial, commercial, and trade shop environments.
Cut to size using a cold saw, band saw, or angle grinder with an appropriate metal-cutting wheel. Deburr all cut edges before handling or fitting. When welding, follow applicable AWS guidelines for low carbon steel. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves during all cutting and grinding operations.
