The STARRETT 54727 is an A2 air-hardening tool steel flat stock bar intended for toolmakers, machinists, and die makers who require tight dimensional control in ground flat stock. Measuring 5/16 inch thick, 6 inches wide, and 18 inches long, this bar is manufactured to AISI A2 tool steel specification and held to a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.001 inches, a width tolerance of plus 0.000 to 0.005 inches, and a length tolerance of plus 0.250 inches. A2 tool steel offers good wear resistance and dimensional stability through the air-hardening heat treatment process, making it a reliable choice for punches, dies, gauges, and precision tooling components.
This flat stock is suited for job shops, tool and die operations, and maintenance departments where custom tooling blanks are machined, ground, or EDM-processed to final form. The 6-inch width and 18-inch length provide adequate blank size for a wide range of die plate, fixture plate, and tooling applications in both light manufacturing and production environments. Always allow the workpiece to reach ambient temperature before taking final measurements.
